Low Aperture Shooting

I took a class Thursday with my SLR, and though it took about 100 mintues into the 3-hour class before we hit on stuff I was interested in learning (or that was new to me, really), once we got going, it was great to have someone in front of me explaining shutter speed, ISOs, and aperture in more detail (and with hands on examples) than I got from the book I read.

This shot was taken playing wth a very low aperture of 1.8 for a VERY shallow depth of field. You’ll note, only the front of my phone is in focus. This is with my fixed 50mm lens, which I love for portraits.

  1. Settings:

    Tv( Shutter Speed ) 1/640
    Av( Aperture Value ) 1.8
    Exposure Compensation 0
    ISO Speed 3200
    Lens EF50mm f/1.8 II
    Focal Length 50.0 mm

Now that I know exactly what Exposure Compensation is, I’m including it in the list of settings. It’s probably going to be 0 most of the time, but who knows?
