I’m going to guess:
MTA = Metropolitan Transit Authority
BMT = Bronx Metro Transit
IRT = Inter-borough Rail Transit
Huh … Wikipedia tells me I’m close enough that I probably read it somewhere (and far enough away I get very little credit for remembering it).
