Ok, it has a photo, but that’s not the sole purpose of this post. Basically, I keep thinking about a tattoo. I don’t know if I’ll ever really get one, but I do keep thinking about it. (The image to the side here is similar to what I’m thinking of getting.)
So, a quick poll. Do you have a tattoo? Did you get it for a specific reason, or just to have one? What is it? Where is it? Did it hurt? And how did you find your artist?
What other questions should I ask? Do you regret it?
Not that I would ever get one, but I have to say that’s an attractive design.
Knowing where you’d get it, I approve. But you already know that.
I know precisely what I’ll get — which you know — but I’m a bit torn as to how I’d like to look.

Apologies in advance for the long reply.
I think that would be a cool design. I have 3. One I got when I was 18, it’s Kokopelli and is on the left side of my chest, it’s not the best design, but I don’t regret it. It’s in desperate need of a touch-up. No thought really went into it.
My 2nd one is on my back right below the top of my spine. It’s a dragonfly perched on some knitting needles. I thought about this one for awhile and it was my “congratulations you’re divorced” gift to myself.
My 3rd one I got a few months ago. It’s on my lower back and is a ball of yarn with two knitting needles with dragonflies as their tops. I absolutely LOVE this tattoo and don’t regret it for a second.
As to if they hurt, the one on my chest did not hurt very much, the one on my neck hurt a bit more, but not too bad. The one on my lower back hurt a whole bunch.
My 1st artist was just random. Went downtown, found a place, got a tattoo.
My 2nd one I used a Denver artist named Sister Bear at The Blue Door. She came recommended by a friend of a friend. I liked her work and was happy with the results.
My 3rd was the most in depth with picking the art and the artist. I knew what I wanted, but since I have no talent when it comes to drawing I had to find someone who was a good artist. I did research by asking friends and oddly enough checking out Yelp.com I met with the artist, told her what I wanted, she came up with some drawings for me a few weeks later. I chose one of the designs she came up with and we scheduled an appointment to do the work. It took 3 visits to complete the whole thing, two for the outline and one for the color.
I’m working on getting my 4th one some time this summer. I’m not 100% sure what I want, but I have a general idea. I just need to figure out the logistics. I’m thinking of maybe something on my ankle but I don’t know yet.
If you want to ask me questions about the whole thing let me know.
Thanks, Amanda! That’s really helpful. I’ve heard of a couple other somewhat local places — Th’Ink Tank and Junkyard Ink. The first I hear if very popular with long waits to get appointments but totally worth it, the second place I heard from another friend was like a spa. Will have to look into the Blue Door!
