2019 P52: Week 33 — Embrace Negative Space

From the prompt:

Negative space is the area that surrounds the main subject (aka “positive space”). When negative space is used generously & effectively in an image, the eye is naturally drawn to the main subject. Due to the lack of clutter/distraction, this space also allows the eye to rest.

This is a great exercise to get participants to consider each element in the scene more carefully. Remember to use the rules of composition when framing your subject to help create a stronger image. As usual, the main subject in your image should be compelling. When using negative space, this is very important because there are no (or minimal) supporting subjects to help convey a story &/or emotion.

Assignment:  Use negative space in an image to help emphasize the main subject & the story being told.

It’s hard to get negative space in a community pool on  beautiful summer Sunday, but I think I did all right!
