Normally, I keep things pretty personal over on this blog, and save all the work stuff (as may seem appropriate) for my work site. Today, though, I’m pretty proud of the post I just wrote over there, and I wanted to give it a little more love.
See, every week on Fridays I post a query that an author has sent to me for the express purpose of my critiquing it. These queries don’t come from the general pool of submissions I receive to the tune of well over a hundred a week. (I got over 1,300 queries in the first three months of the year, so yeah, math.) Today’s was an especially long one, as I went through the query line by line with my comments. I think it took maybe two hours? In any case, a lot of time.
To be clear, the query wasn’t BAD, and I have no information about the manuscript itself, but the author’s presentation of her story needs a lot of work.
And, well, a lot of people ask me what an agent DOES. For me, on Fridays at least, this is part of that answer. Enjoy. (And have fun checking all the geek references!)
