My self-portraits book-ended my trip to Bologna, with this one coming on my last day in Italy, as I finished up my shopping for toys for the munchkins, and cheese and limoncello for Doyce and I. This was taken at the top of one of Bologna’s "Two Towers" — neither one is home to Saruman or the White Tree of Gondor — which I’d forgot I’d climbed a few years before, when I met my high school friend Stefania for a day. In any case, it’s a gorgeous view, and after a week of pasta and prosecco, I could use the exercise — 498 steps to the top, and the same back down again. Whew!
