From this week’s assignment, “The word intention is… used a lot in photography. What is the intent of the photographer? Is it to tell a story (what is the story?), to evoke a mood, to imply movement or time? Shooting with intent and purpose can really push your photography by forcing you to slow down and really think about what you are doing, what you are including in the frame, what you are excluding, or how you are using light.” In terms of the new year, it also “implies having a plan or a purpose or to set goals, but the word feels a lot less formal and bossy than “resolution”. To me an intention can be all well and good, but other important things can arise that may put that intention on the back-burner, but it’s still there and I can return to it.”
As for me, I like “intentions” better than resolutions. I intend to:
- Get in the picture more often. Not just alone, but with my kids as well.
- Learn more about my camera, and how it works (This year I’m finally going to take Mastering Manual Eexposure!)
- Read more for pleasure, while (ideally) keeping up with my reading for work.
So here’s a bit of a promise of all that, with Kaylee’s image and intentions still to come!
Edited to add Kaylee’s photo! She said one of her goals this year was to be a better student, and she decided how she wanted to depict that, with this shot of her completed homework.
