P52: Week 14 — Framing

And so to this week’s assignment, on framing:

Why use framing? The two primary reasons:

It helps to “close” the photograph. In other words, it prevents the viewer’s eye from wandering out of the frame.
It helps to clearly draw attention to (and sometimes reinforce) the subject. As opposed to leading lines (and lines in general), instead of trying to lead the eye through the photograph, with framing our aim is to better isolate the subject.

I hadn’t read this assignment until after I was back in the country from my trip, but luckily, I had a great shot from Bologna that incorporated architectural framing:

I missed last week’s blog circle, but am happy to rejoin this week. Click through to Michele’s blog for the next stop on the circle!
